Court Repairs

A crack in the surface is rarely just a surface problem.

Most court damage starts at base level: subsidence, drainage failure, joint movement. Patching the surface without addressing the cause produces another crack within a season.

We assess the cause during the site visit. The written proposal addresses both.

Types of Repairs

Three types of damage. Different causes, different fixes.

Crack Repair

Surface-only cracks and structural cracks need different approaches.

Surface cracks, from UV degradation or minor movement, can be filled and sealed. Structural cracks, caused by base subsidence or joint failure, require base-level repair before any surface work. We determine which type during the site assessment.

Drainage & Birdbath Repair

Standing water after rain is a drainage or subsidence issue, not a surface problem.

A birdbath is a low point in the court base where water pools. It indicates base subsidence. Left untreated, it accelerates surface cracking and becomes a slip hazard. The fix involves base-level correction, not just surface patching.

Fencing, Lines & Posts

Net post replacement, collar repair, fencing panel and post repair, line marking reinstatement.

These repairs are often scoped alongside a cleaning or resurfacing visit. If fencing or post condition is noted in a condition report, we can quote and schedule the repair in the same written proposal.

Who Calls Us

Two situations that bring people to this page.

The Homeowner

The court with deteriorating surface

The court has developed visible cracks. There's water pooling in one corner after rain. The fencing is pulling away at one post. The owner wants someone to assess it properly and tell them what actually needs doing, and what doesn't.

The Estate Manager

Reactive repair from condition report

A condition report flagged a crack three months ago. Now it's widened. A net post is loose. An estate manager needs the repair scoped, quoted, and completed without having to manage the process closely. SWMS documentation and insurance certificate provided as standard.

Common Questions

What repair clients ask us most.

What causes cracks in a tennis court?

Two main causes. Surface-level cracking comes from UV degradation, thermal expansion, and the natural ageing of the acrylic coat. Structural cracking indicates base movement: subsidence, soil shrinkage in dry summers, or drainage failure beneath the slab. The repair approach is different for each, which is why we assess before we scope.

Can cracks be repaired without full resurfacing?

Often, yes. Minor surface cracking can be filled, sealed, and colour-matched without a full re-coat. Structural cracking usually requires base repair first, and once the base is stabilised, the surface is often in poor enough condition that a full re-coat makes more sense than patching. We'll give you an honest assessment during the site visit.

What is a birdbath and how is it repaired?

A birdbath is a depression in the court surface, caused by base subsidence, where water pools after rain. The fix is not a surface patch. It requires levelling the base at the point of subsidence, then resurfacing the affected area. Left untreated, the pooling accelerates cracking and creates a slip hazard.

How do I know if my court needs repairs or full resurfacing?

If the surface has widespread cracking, significant colour loss, or multiple areas of damage, a full resurface is usually more cost-effective than multiple individual repairs. If the damage is isolated (a single crack run, a loose post, a patch of line marking), repairs alone may be sufficient. We'll tell you which during the site visit.

Do repairs require a building permit?

For standard repair work (crack filling, drainage correction, line marking, fencing) a permit is not required. If your property is subject to a Heritage Overlay and the scope involves structural changes to fencing or the court's physical boundary, council advice may be needed. We flag this during the site visit.

How long do repairs take?

Crack repair and line marking typically take 1 to 2 days. Drainage correction and birdbath repair: 2 to 4 days depending on the extent of base work. Fencing replacement: 1 to 2 days. We confirm the timeline in the written proposal.
